The air was still, though many creatures have passed through here before. It had been storming for a few days now, causing the atomosphere to moisten and the ground to soften.
I stepped forward cautiously, waiting for something to move. Nothing did. I checked the area surrounding once more, and i still did not see anything. I then becconed to the little ones hiding in the hidden entrance by calling using my soft mew.
The younglings poked their white heads out cautiously as i did, as they learned this from me, their nurturer. But this did not last long. They have been cooped up for too long to be too cautious, as I still am. They began tumbling over each other in their attempt to catch up with me.
I move off as they reach me, and they pounce on each other as they follow. But i want silence, as this is still dangerous territorry. We need to make it over the ridge, where the interlocking wall is. There, we will finally be safe from the two-legged creatures that took my mate away.
Many have told me about the wonderous place, one where we are safe from hunters that kill us for mere sport. I have only heard stories of it, however, if the stories are true, we are only 50 Leopard-lengths from our destination, a place where we can hunt in peace.
I realize i need to feed my young ones, who recently took on an appitite of meat, so i look for a meal as i walk. When i spot one, a deer, i hide my young ones in the closest shelter and begin stalking it. The creature never knew i was there, and my kill was quick and clean. I drag the food over to my two kits, who immediatly tuck in. I sit, looking around for any of those two-legged creatures, or perhaps another predator. But nothing shows, and as my young ones finish eating, I begin to scarf down what food I can. After the meal is almost gone, i call to my charges and walk on.
I walk for a few more minutes, but now I sense eyes watching. What is it? I pause and look around, but i see nothing. I walk on again, but this time, i know there is something watching us. I can smell it. I look in the direction of the smell as my instincts cause my fur to rise. I begin walking more quickley, my kits following closely, now unable to play as they follow.
I cannot find any shelter, so i try to follow a trail between the trees. I sniff the air again, but the smell is no longer there. Nor is the sense that something is watching me. I calm my fur and slow again. but in the next moment, i wish i hadn't. A loud echoing sound, followed by a searing pain in my side makes me call out in agonization. My little ones squeal in alarm and run toward me, but now i can hear another sound. As my life fades and i see the blood coming from my own white and black-spotted body, i hear a crunching noise, and my little ones begin growling at the newest creature. as my sight fades, the unkown creatures pick up my little ones and drop them in a box. The offending creatures look at me and speak before my life force is completely gone.
"This Snow leopard will make a nice coat for my wife."
